SMDPRO_189 Footplate riser (for limb length discrepancy) – 20 mm

Lower limb discrepancy compensation platform works on a very simple principle, but it has a significant biomechanical impact on the entire body during standing positioning.

What happens when one leg is shorter?
When one limb is shorter (functionally or anatomically), the body begins to compensate:

  • the pelvis tilts,

  • the spine curves sideways,

  • one side of the body becomes more overloaded,

  • posture becomes asymmetrical.

This often leads to pain in the knees, hips, and spine (especially the lumbar region), as well as faster joint wear.

How does the compensation platform work during patient positioning?
The platform:

  • raises the shorter limb by a specific height (platform height to be defined in mm),

  • levels the pelvis,

  • improves symmetry of foot loading,

  • normalizes the patient’s standing posture.

Effect: the body no longer relies on compensatory patterns, and muscles and joints work closer to their natural biomechanics.

Where is the platform placed?
The platform is a rigid insert mounted inside the footplate of the standing device on the side of the shortened limb.

Important rule: do NOT correct 100% immediately
If the discrepancy is significant or has existed for years:

  • correction should begin partially (e.g., 50–70%),

  • the height should be increased gradually, as the body needs time to adapt; otherwise, pain may occur instead of relief.
